Delhi: In a move that will enhance its presence in
the Indian market, car refinishes major Akzo Nobel Car
Refinishes has opened its international information and
communication technologies competence centre in Bangalore.
Situated in the Akzo Nobel site in Bangalore, the global
center will play an important role in the development
of new IT-related services for the global collision repair
industry.
The
center will work in close cooperation with the existing
global ICT center in Velp in Netherlands and will be responsible
for the development of IT bodyshop systems such as Carinfo,
Sikkens e-benchmarking and Mixit, all ICT systems that
enable the bodyshop to become more efficient and profitable.
Initially
the new center in India will focus on test work and activities
in the area of data retrieval and programming, though
in a few years time actual software development will also
be performed here.
Chris Wall, global marketing manager Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes,
said, "With the presence of the new ICT competence
center in India, we are able to further strengthen our
technological position in the market. India gives us a
window on human talent and especially Bangalore has developed
itself to one of the IT capitals of the world. The center
is in line with our strategy to provide our customers
with the best possible IT tools and services to make their
businesses more profitable. The new center ensures that
we meet the needs of the global and regional car repair
industry."
The ICT Competence Center is part of a unit of Akzo Nobel
Car Refinishes India, which was incorporated in 1997.
According to Floris Zwarteveen, Manager of the Global
ICT Competence Center, "The expansion of our global
ICT center to India is based on the growing necessity
of IT in general, but more specifically on the future
plans to developed new services for the collision repair
market. Our establishment in India enables us to expand
without major increases in cost."
In 2002 Akzo
Nobel opened an international R&D and training center
that provides training to painters.
