China has called for a clear explanation from the US following reports of infiltration of the servers of the Chinese telecoms giant, Huawei.

According to the company, it would condemn the invasion of its networks if the reports in The New York Times were true.

The newspaper quoted documents, alleged to be from the US National Security Agency (NSA), that the former contractor, Edward Snowden had revealed.

According to the documents, the NSA had spied on Huawei and had information on its customers.

Without making any mention of the reports, the NSA said it focused only on what it termed valid foreign intelligence targets.

It said it did not use intelligence to steal the secrets of foreign companies to help US businesses.

According to Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei, China was extremely concerned about the allegations.

He added, China had already lodged many complaints with the US about reports of its espionage activities. He demanded that Washington cease its activities and explain itself.

According to the port, one of the goals of the US operation was to determine whether the Chinese telecoms company had connections with the People's Liberation Army.

Lei told a regular briefing, "Recently, the international media has put out a lot of reports about the evesdropping, surveillance and stealing of secrets by the United States of other countries, including China, " Reuters reported.

According to Reuters, German magazine Der Spiegel and The New York Times, Saturday reported on classified documents, provided by former agency contractor Edward Snowden, that detailed the spying operation.

The German magazine also reported that the NSA was targeting China's political leadership, including former president Hu Jintao, as also the trade and foreign ministries.
