Samsung takes potshot at Blackberry in new ad

After Samsung's smug and cheeky ''sheeple'' ads targeting Apple users, the company is now taking a potshot at BlackBerry, portraying RIM devices as corporate workhorses, unpopular with their users.

The ad's setting is the office of a fictional mobile game developer, working on its next big title, Unicorn Apocalypse. Developers and other staff members are shown in the ad using BlackBerry devices in a way that mocks their lack of features. Alongside, the ad also shows Galaxy Note 2 and S III devices and promotes their security features.

With security a major selling point for RIM handsets, Samsung is using the ad to promote its SAFE technology, which allows secure hook up of consumer devices to a company network and their use as work devices.

Although RIM devices continue to retain their popularity in business circles, they are losing some of their appeal with the competition catching up and gaining much ground in the business market. The Canadian company has pinned its hopes on BlackBerry 10, which should debut soon.

Meanwhile, Samsung seems to have lined up a range of devices for launch this year. Apart from unveiling its latest flagship smart phone, the Galaxy S IV as also the new Galaxy Note, the company had also planned the launch of a new smart phone sporting a huge 5.8-inch display.

Citing an "insider" bringing latest information, Samsung oriented blog, SamMobile states that the Korean electronics giant would soon unveil a smartphone, the Galaxy Fonblet 5.8 (GT-I9152). The handset is expected to be coloured Pure White.

The smart phone, which comes with a 5.8-inch TFT screen with QHD resolution display, 3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 4.0 and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), is expected to be a superior version of the Galaxy Player 5.8, currently available only in Korea.

The blog goes on to confirm the existence of the next iteration of the Galaxy X Cover (launched in 2011) in the form of the X Cover 2 GT-S7710. The device is likely to be offered in two colour versions (Titan Gray and Black/Red). Though pricing and availability details are not known yet, Samsung is expected to announce these smart phones soon.
