According to European health experts the emergence of antibiotic-resistant infections has reached alarming levels and is overwhelming out ability to counter it with existing drugs.

The EU records around 25,000 fatalities from bacterial infections that outsmart even the latest antibiotics.

According to the World Health Organization the situation has reached a critical point.

The global health agency says the time has come to launch a united push to make new drugs. The agency warns that without a concerted effort, a 'nightmare scenario'' could unfold with the worldwide spread of untreatable infections.

The New Delhi or NDM-1 superbug recently found in patients in the UK is an example of new drug resistant strains of micro-organisms causing infection.

The NDM-1 superbug was supposedly introduced into Europe by people who are said to have visited countries like India and Pakistan for medical treatment and cosmetic surgery.
