SNC-Lavalin acquires pharma engineering firm Pipecon

Mumbai: Canadian engineering and construction firm SNC-Lavalin has acquired Mumbai-based Pipecon Consultants Pvt Ltd, to increase its presence in the pharmaceutical and bio-pharmaceutical engineering sector in the country.

Pipecon provides mechanical, piping, electrical and process engineering as well as project management services to the pharmaceutical industry. Its clients include both local and international pharmaceutical and bio-technology companies.

Pipecon, set up in 1986, has a team of nearly 50 employees. The acquisition of Pipecon increases SNC-Lavalin''s pharmaceutical and bio-technology team in India and brings its global team to nearly 1,000 employees, the company said in a release.

"India plays a leading role in the global production of generic medication, and is a location of choice for research and development activities,'''' SNC-Lavalin''s senior vice president and general manager, engineering & technology, Daniel Lachapelle, said in the release.

"This acquisition further increases our pharmaceutical and bio-pharmaceutical engineering presence in the country and confirms our strategic objective to gain a growing share of these markets in India and in other countries in Asia,'''' he said.

SNC-Lavalin group has offices across Canada and in 34 other countries around theworld, with current operations in some 100 countries.
