Chemtech + Pharma World Expo to start in Mumbai on 22 Jan

Mumbai: Chemtech + Pharma World Expo 2003, India’s largest exhibition and conference for the chemical process and pharmaceutical industry, and the third largest in the world, will be inaugurated by Chemical and Fertilisers Minister S S Dhindsa at 9.30 am at the Convention Centre, Hotel Renaissance, Powai, Mumbai, on 22 January 2003.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Ram Naik will preside over the function. Reliance group chairman Mukesh Ambani will give the keynote address, while Goldman Sachs International senior advisor Charles Miller Smith will be the chief overseas guest. This event is being sponsored by the Chemtech Foundation, the pioneers in India in international conferences and exhibitions related to the chemical world.

The international exhibition will spread over five days (22-26 January) at the NSE Exhibition Complex, Goregaon (East), Mumbai. The four-day international conference will take place at the Renaissance Hotel, Powai, where 150 eminent speakers from 20 countries around the world will speak on matters of topical interest to the industry.

The international conferences cover topics related to the chemical, IT in chemical processing industry, pharma, biotech, environment and innovation. A CEO leadership forum, addressed by eminent leaders, will also be held at the Oberoi Hotel on 22 and 23 January.

This year, Maharashtra is the host partner state, Andhra Pradesh the partner state, and the European Union is the partner-in -progress. The event will see participation from more than 20 countries.

Several business and trade delegations will visit the event, including Indonesia (with a large delegation led by Sumatra Governor T Rizal Nurdin), the US, China and EU countries. With a record participation of over 400 exhibitors, the exhibition will witness display of more products, technologies and services, making it the best platform for trade and idea exchange.

The high-powered conferences will witness some of the prominent personalities from the industry such as Mukesh Ambani, who is also chairman, National Advisory Board, Chemtech World Expo, 2003; Dr Ashok Ganguly, chairman, ICI India Ltd, and chairman, Chemtech Innovation Board; Ajit Singh, chairman, Associated Capsules Group, and chairman, National Advisory board PHARMA World Expo 2003; Homi Sethna, former chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, and chairman, Board of Governors, Chemtech Foundation; Subir Raha, chairman and managing director ONGC; Charles Miller Smith, international advisor, Goldman Sachs International, UK; Dr Trevor Jones, director-general, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, UK; David Farr, CEO, Emerson Electric Co, and many more.

Chemtech Foundation chairman Jasu Shah says: “Chemtech 2003, our first event in the 21st century and the 21st in the Chemtech series of exhibitions, will be the largest exhibition under the Chemtech banner; it is a path-breaking event. It is poised to emerge as the most spectacular process industry show in Asia and has become an effective platform to exchange new ideas to promote greater trade and technology transfer and investment between India and other countries.”

The Chemtech World Expo 2003 conference promises to be India’s largest and most comprehensive conference with nine keynote addresses, 12 business and technology tracks with 72 sessions across four days. These will range from innovation to IT in the chemical process, biotechnology, power, pharmaceutical and environment industries.

The conference agenda is designed for dissemination of information, discussions on new business models, strategy and future trends as also to provide an opportunity for interaction with global visionaries, business leaders and academia.
