Cement companies have maintained their healthy growth rates for the month of April 2006 as well. All frontline companies have seen both despatch and production rise when compared to the same month of last year. However on a month-on-month basis, production and despatch have declined. This was expected as March is typically a very good month which is normally followed by some slowdown in April. Gujarat Ambuja is the best performer with a 15.4-per cent rise in despatches and nearly 18 per cent increase in production for the month of April as compared to the same month of previous year. Shareholding of Holcim in the merged entity would rise to 24 per cent. Holcim's open offer to Gujarat Ambuja Shareholders has been a failure with very poor response.
