The automobile sector saw sustained volume growth for the month of February, led by the passenger car segment. Volume growth in commercial vehicles was relatively subdued as February is traditionally a weak month mostly because of the lower number of working days. Volume growth in the 2-wheeler segment was also subdued during the month. | Total Vehicles Feb 2007 | Domestic | Exports | Total | % growth y-o-y | Jan 2007 | | Tata Motors | 49,181 | 4,526 | 53,707 | 19.05 | 55,440 | | Maruti | 59,095 | 3,904 | 62,999 | 53.30 | 65,341 | | Hyundai | 15,459 | 9,567 | 25,026 | 34.61 | 26,661 | | M&M | 19,716 | 1,033 | 20,749 | 14.06 | 27,800 | | Ashok Leyland | 7,353 | 683 | 8,036 | 33.09 | 9,650 | | Note: Volumes of M&M include tractors and 3-wheelers | | Passenger Vehicles - Domestic | Feb 2007 | Feb 2006 | % change | Jan 2007 | | Maruti | 59,095 | 36,608 | 61.43 | 62,248 | | Tata Motors | 21,322 | 17,917 | 19.00 | 22,801 | | M&M | 9,486 | 9,042 | 4.91 | 15,183 | | Hyundai | 15,459 | 8,898 | 73.74 | 17,460 | | Honda | 3,521 | 2,195 | 60.00 | 6,013 | | Ford | 3,856 | 3,023 | 27.50 | 4,623 | | General Motors | 3,087 | 1,709 | 81.00 | 3,776 | Maruti reported a sharp 61 per cent jump in domestic passenger vehicle sales, mostly aided by a 79.58 per cent rise in sales of premium hatchbacks.
