Dubai:
The tenth edition of the Dubai Air Show has opened on a happy note for the world's
biggest plane maker, Airbus SAS, with the company announcing a preliminary order
for 100 aircraft, valued at about $13.5 billion from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise's
(DAE) leasing unit. The order will be the Middle East company's first purchase. The
DAE has signed a letter of intent covering 70 A320 family aircraft and 30 A350
XWBs, according to a statement issued to the media. Delivery of the aircraft is
scheduled for the period 2013-2022. The
price includes Rolls-Royce Group Plc engines to power the A350s, valued at $1.2
billion, according to the statement. The
contract helps Airbus widen its lead over Boeing Co in winning orders from customers
in the Middle East.
