Galileo, a global distribution system in India and Tourism Malaysia, yesterday announced a joint promotion to boost Indian tourist arrivals to Malaysia and specifically promote the Malaysian F1.

This promotion, targeted for the travel agents, would be valid till 15 March, 2009.

This all-India promotion provides an opportunity for Indian travel agents to book Malaysian destination on any airline operating between India and Malaysia, thereby expanding the choice for the travel agencies. Travel agencies will have the opportunity to book Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Jet Airways, Air India, Sri Lankan Airlines, Thai Airways, Air Asia or any other direct or indirect flights operating to Malaysia so as to qualify for the promotion.

The winners for the promotion would be rewarded with a special F-1 tour coinciding with the forthcoming Malaysian F-1 Grandprix final race on 5th April, 2009 at the Sepang Circuit.

This joint initiative would be yet another first for Galileo and the Global Distribution System (GDS) market, and will be in line with a new thought to promote niche travel segments in the travel fraternity.

"In line with our customer centric thoughts to create value additions for the travel fraternity, we have embarked upon a new strategic move which would help both the GDS and the travel partners to augment their revenue streams. We have consciously chosen sports tourism as the segment because of its high potential and large following. In this transformed travel environment, GDS are no more perceived to be only content distributors they are regarded as a basket full of customised opportunities and Galileo has always been a pioneer in this regard, " commented Bruce Hanna, president and CEO, Galileo in India.

"The Malaysian F-1 is the closest and the most economical for Indians to visit. We witnessed over 1000 F-1 aficionados in the last year race, which also included large corporate incentive tours. In the advent of increased Indian presence in the Formula-1 atmosphere, we are hopeful that this year will witness record breaking figures from the Indian sub-continent.

We anticipate close to 1500 Indians taking the F-1 splurge in the forthcoming race days," said Manoharan, director, Tourism Malaysia, India.

Tourism Malaysia, in association with its partners is also promoting a special F1 package that commences from INR 13,599 and includes accommodation, transfers, site seeing tour with over 21 top up options with F-1 tickets.
