Two oil tankers collided outside Ennore Port this morning. However, there was no oil spillage or casualty in the accident.

MT Maple, bearing an Isle of Man flag and carrying LPG, which was sailing out of the port, collided outside the harbour with Indian vessel MT Dawn Kanchipuram at around 4am.

The Indian vessel carrying petroleum products was coming into the port when the accident took place. A statement from Kamarajar Port said that there was no damage to environment like oil pollution, nor any casualty or injury. The accident has not affected movement of ships.

"The vessels are safely afloat and anchored. The extent of damage is under assessment," the statement said.

An enquiry has been ordered. An official said that Indian Coast Guard, which has expertise in assessing and arresting oil spill from spreading, was likely to conduct a probe.
