Emami to set up refining unit at Krishnapatnam, AP

Emami Biotech,  a group company of Emami Ltd, plans to set up an oil processing unit at Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The plant, with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes of oil per day is estimated to require an investment of Rs200 crore, is scheduled to be operational by next month. The refinery would produce refined palm and sunflower oil.

Emami has another processing unit at Haldia, West Bengal and with the new capacity being added at Krishnapatnam, it would be doubling its capacity to 2,000 tonnes a day.

According to Manish Goenka, director, Emami Group of Companies,  the group would also be setting up a unit in western India which would produce palm, soyabean and groundnut oil, for which the investment would be Rs250 crore. The unit would have a capacity of 1,500 tonnes.

Emami is currently strengthening its presence in Tamil Nadu, with a distribution network of 12,000 retailers and 85 distributors. According to Goenka the state was expected to contribute around 15 per cent of the target of its edible oil brand Healthy &Tasty.

Last year, the company's turnover stood at Rs1,500 crore, of which its Healthy& Tasty brand of edible oil accounted for Rs300 crore.
