Auto exports rise almost 62 per cent in November; domestic sales slump

New Delhi: Ironically, while indian auto sales saw one of the biggest falls in history in November, auto exports zoomed by 61.88 per cent during the month.

Tighter lending by banks and slowing economy have led to auto sales plunging by 17.98 in the domestic market in the month of November as against the figures in the same month last year.

Total vehicle sales in the Indian market stood at 711 ,281 units in November as against 867,243 units in the same month in 2007, according to figures from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Commercial vehicle sales fell 49.52 per cent in November to 20,637 units from 40,879 units in the same month last year, while passenger car sales also dropped 19.38 per cent to 83,059 units from 1,03,031 units in the same month last year.

Demand for passenger cars in India has fell in four of the past five months.

Two-wheeler sales fell 14.68 per cent at 5,67,502 units from 6,65,181 units in the same period last year while motorcycle sales fell 20.24 per cent at 4,31,171 units as against 5,40,553 units in the corresponding month a year ago.
