Govt extends deadline for filing final GST returns till 10 January

The government has extended the last date for filing of final sales return, GSTR-1, under the goods and services tax by 10 days, ie, till 10 January, the finance ministry announced on Friday.

Businesses with turnover of up to Rs1.5 crore will have to file GSTR-1 for July-September by 10 January 2018, as against the earlier deadline of 31 December 2017. Businesses with turnover of more than Rs1.5 crore can also file GSTR-1 for the July-November period by January 10, as per the finance ministry announcement.

The GST Council had in November allowed businesses with turnover of up to Rs 1.5 crore to file final returns GSTR-1 quarterly.

Accordingly, GSTR-1 for December can be filed by 10 February and for subsequent months it would be the 10th day of the succeeding month.

Businesses with turnover of up to Rs1.5 crore will have to file returns for the October-December period by 15 February and that for January-March by 30 April.

The last date for filing of return in FORM GSTR-1 for all taxpayers for the relevant periods, as shown in the Table below, has been extended to 10 January 2018.
