Consumer price inflation lower at 8.28% in May

Consumer price inflation based on the all-India consumer price index (combined) stood at 8.28 per cent in May 2014, compared to 8.59 per cent (final) in the previous month (April 2014), provisional figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) today showed.

The corresponding provisional inflation rates for rural and urban areas for May 2014 are 8.86 per cent and 7.55 per cent, respectively. Inflation rates (final) for rural and urban areas for April 2014 are 9.17 per cent and 7.69 per cent, respectively.

Inflation rate based on the consumer food price indices (CFPI) also stood lower at 9.56 per cent in May 2014 compared to 9.83 per cent in the previous month (April 2014.

The corresponding provisional inflation rates for rural and urban areas for May 2014 stood at 10.27 per cent and 7.98 per cent, respectively.

Inflation rates (final) for rural and urban areas for April 2014 are 10.53 per cent and 8.35 per cent, respectively.

CSO will be releasing Consumer Food Price Indices (CFPI) for all India for rural, urban and combined separately beginning May 2014.
