According to the World Bank's 2006 Ease of Doing Business survey released yesterday, India ranks 116th among 155 countries (incidentally, far behind neighbours Pakistan and Bangladesh, not to speak of China) in terms of the ease of doing business in the countrybased on 10 business parameters.

The 10 parameters are: starting a business, dealing with licenses, hiring and firing workers, registering property, getting property, getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and closing a business, and reflects the position as it obtained in January this year.

entrepreneurs to go through 11 steps to launch a business over 71 days on an average, at a cost equal to 61.7 per cent of gross national income (GNI) per capita. There is no minimum deposit requirement to obtain a business registration number.
