Presenting the union budget in the Lok Sabha today, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said  the wide-ranging discussions on the Direct Tax Code (DTC) had been concluded and government would be in a position to implement the DTC from 1 April, 2011.

The house was also informed by the minister that the structure of Goods and Services Tax (GST) as also the modalities of its expeditious implementation were being discussed with the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers.

He added that the government would endeavour to introduce GST by April 2011.
