At least 8 dead as Singrauli bomb factory explodes

At least eight people have died in twin blasts at explosives factories in Madhya Praesh's the Singrauli district, about 750 km from Bhopal, while 40 othrs have been injured. Some reports put the death toll at 10 or more.

Officials say it is not yet known what caused the explosions. Rescue teams have been sent to the area, while police are investigating the blasts.

The first blast occurred at around 6.30 am on Sunday in the Ideal Explosive Industries complex . The blast was so powerful that it also reduced the nearby Rajasthan Explosives factory to rubble, officials said.

Rescue operations were continuing to see if more people were still trapped under the rubble. "Ten people are dead. Nine were recovered and one died in hospital," Singrauli police superintendent Anurag, who goes by one name, told BBC..

The blast was so powerful that vibrations were felt in nearby towns, and power lines were immediately cut.
