Wipro global remote managed services hub at Bangalore

Wipro Technologies has started its remote managed services hub at Bangalore. Set up at a cumulative investment of over Rs2,250 million ($5 million in a new generation technology and tool sets. The centre provides Wipro customers a technology agnostic, secure managed services environment.

In a recent poll conducted by Wipro with Everest Group's outsourcing centre, potential outsourcers identified security challenges, particularly unauthorised distribution of passwords, un-monitored access to and tampering of critical applications as the biggest challenge. An overwhelming 39 per cent of the respondents had said that lack of a real-time view of operations and limited visibility into the business impact was a big concern. Moreover, 16 per cent of the respondents cited vendor inability to support multiple tools and technologies as a deterrent.

The new Wipro centre has addressed these problems. Its first global command centre went operational in September 2002 — one year after 9 / 11 — to provide remote managed services. The new centre is the world's first BS 15000-certified facility.

Outlining Wipro's strategy to grow its market share in infrastructure management, Vaswani says, "Our new global command centre has been designed to specifically address some of the key issues that clients face when they outsource remote infrastructure management. According to Nasscom, market size for IT infrastructure services that can be delivered through the global delivery model — and therefore by Indian vendors — is in excess of $55 billion.

"Wipro is the No.1 provider of remote infrastructure management services out of India, and our vision is to emerge as one of the top 10 infrastructure management service providers globally, says Suresh Vaswani, president, Wipro Technologies. "We are investing significantly in both nearshore and offshore infrastructure and technological capabilities," he adds.

Wipro is also one of the largest end-to-end services providers offering integrated mainframe to desktop management providing L1 to L4 support.
