Huawei Telecommunications India builds 10,000km national long distance backbone for VSNL

Bangalore: Chinese telecom and networking equipment supplier, Huawei Telecommunications''s Indian subsidiary, Huawei Telecommunications India, has announced having built a 10,000km optical transmission national long distance backbone for Tata Group company VSNL, the largest global provider of wholesale International voice services.

Huawei says its products and solutions are deployed in over 100 countries and serve 31 of the world''s top 50 operators, as well as over one billion users worldwide.

The project mandate for Huawei also includes provision of managed services, which Huawei says is a first in India by any fixed network operator. Huawei landed this project for turnkey supply of "10Gb, Multi-reach, Ultra Long Haul DWDM" optical transmission equipment in July 2006.

"A competent technical evaluation authority appointed by VSNL successfully carried out rigorous validation and testing of the Super WDM equipment over a prolonged period before clearing its large scale deployment," said M R Madhusudhan, head, network global operations, VSNL.

"We are delighted with the performance of the DWDM equipment from Huawei as it has not only reduced the capital and operating expenditure but has also significantly enhanced the reliability and availability of the network while providing for investment protection. We expect this network backbone to deliver high quality multi-play, multimedia broadband services to all our end customers"

The backbone network spread across India spanning over 100 cities has been built using Huawei''s next generation DWDM products and solution based on its super WDM platform. In its fully equipped state, the offered super WDM system is capable of providing bandwidth of the order of 1.6 Terabits.
