TVS Electronics harps on point of sale terminals at retail outlets

Says TVS Electronics director Gopal Srinivasan: "We will like to be present in all the point-of-transaction terminals. This field support business though contributing a small turnover is expected to grow in a major way. We will take care of all point-of-transaction terminals irrespective of their brand."

As part of its strategy to be present at the point of sale, TVS Electronics has joined hands with Intel to promote the usage of computers by small and medium business enterprises. Under this scheme, small and medium enterprises are offered Intel chip powered personal computer, a TVS Proton bill printer, billing software and the financing option arranged by Allianz Bajaj. The initial focus of the campaign will be the chemist shops throughout the country. Already around 30 customer meets have been held across eight cities in India.

As per the latest market research reports, the small and medium business segment (comprising small shops, establishments and small businesses), contributes to over 44 per cent of the computer purchases and computerisation in this segment is growing at 15 per cent, the highest across all customer segments.

"PC penetration is improving with an expected PC shipment of over 2.5 million this year. Teledensity is also growing at a 40-per cent rate. Therefore, the domestic IT industry is getting ready to see a robust growth and this augurs well for us," says Srinivasan.

The company has identified business process outsourcing (BPO) in the field of technology maintenance what with more and more foreign brands with lifetime warranty entering the Indian market.
