Tata Motors February sales up 22 per cent year-on-year

Tata Motors has reported total volume sales of 45,114 units for the month of February 2006 as compared to 36,977 units during February 2005. Cumulative sales for the period April 2005-February 2006 stands at 397,933 units.

However, sales for the month declined marginally by 3.26 per cent when compared to January 2006. The company had reported total sales of 46,635 units during the previous month. The decline was mostly on account of a drop in volumes of passenger cars.

Passenger car sales for the month at 17,972 units were 12.1 per cent higher than the sales for the same month of previous year. However, when compared to the January 2006 figure of 20,765 units, sales were lower by 13.45 per cent.

During February 2006, Tata Motors sold 10,548 units of Indica, 3,653 units of the Indigo family and 3,771 units of SUV models Safari and Sumo.

Sales of passenger cars in the domestic market during the month of February were lower for all auto companies, including industry leader Maruti, as most consumers deferred their purchases on expectations of an excise duty cut in the budget. Sales are expected to pick up in the current month as the expected reduction in excise duty has come through and manufacturers have dropped prices.
