Toyota Kirloskar launches CNG-powered Innova

Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched a CNG (compressed natural gas) version of its multi-purpose vehicle, Innova, in India. The first energy-efficient MPV in the country, the CNG-powered Innova is available in all petrol grades, TKM said in a release.

The new Innova, which comes in dual fuel mode, will use CNG as its fuel, ensuring economy and safety of environment. The Innova has a 1998 cc, 16V DOHC VVTi petrol engine which is also CNG-compatible. Driver can switch between the two fuel options with a manual switch.

CNG use will reduce the running cost to around Rs1.6 per km, around 50 per cent of the running cost of a diesel model. The car has provision for a 12 kg CNG cylinder.

This is yet another step in our efforts to make the environment more inhabitable,''   TKM  managing director  Hiroshi Nakagawa said while announcing the launch of the CNG powered Innova.

Besides increased mileage, the use of CNG will increase engine oil life and reduce maintenance costs. The CNG Innova will be cost around Rs85,000 more than the current petrol version.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors has tied up CNG kit supplies with Minda Auto Gas Ltd. According to TKM, the kit is safe for use and meets Euro III emission norms with advanced Lambda control system.
