"With increasing globalisation and long delays travelling to the workplace, the need to gain access to office resources from remote locations is becoming a critical issue for business in India today. As the mobile workforce expands, companies are also seeing the benefits of utilising remote control technology for network management," says Kerrie-Anne Turner, country manager, Symantec India. In addition, remote access technology can help IT departments manage their response times and increased workloads in the wake of critical and urgent issues like Y2K.

"For the increasing number of Indian companies that are using networks, Symantec's pcAnywhere 9.0 provides the most reliable, comprehensive and secure remote access solution which the IT professional and the end user will find easy to use and manage," says Ms Turner.

pcAnywhere 9.0 addresses the most critical security concerns in remote access with Windows NT authentication capabilities. This allows the remote user to be authenticated against the Windows NT user and group names on the Windows NT domain server, thus leveraging the Windows NT security scheme.

Its other remote security features include restricted drive access, data encryption, file transfer rights and more. It also protects against unauthorised access by providing a warning message when a host has been launched without desktop security features enabled. A quick start wizard helps users through installation.

PcAnywhere 9.0 also supports SNMP (simple network management protocol) messaging to facilitate centralised monitoring from within the most popular management platforms. In addition, pcAnywhere 9.0 features the latest Norton AntiVirus-scanning engine to enable automatic virus scanning during file transfer.
