22 November 2006
This is the largest order ever for Siemen's global power transmission and distribution (PTD) business.
In the last financial year as well, Siemens had been awarded two contracts worth Rs26 billion (Rs2,600 crore / $579 million) by Kahramaa, of which Siemens Ltd has already commissioned Phase V and is currently executing Phase VI.
The scope of the mega contract is to supply 25 new substations of 220kV/132kV/66kV voltages in addition to the extension of 14 sub stations and renovation of another 10, all of which will be fitted with cutting-edge electrical power equipments and sub station automation systems supplied in-house by Siemens. These stations will be unmanned and controlled by the central load dispatch centre. This order is a fast track project and is slated to be completed in 22 months.
The Indian company's power transmission and distribution division will handle the bulk of the work and earn the bulk of the revenue — around approximately Rs36 billion (Rs3,600 crore / $802 million)
"This export order, the largest in Siemens PTD Worldwide, highlights the inherent strengths and capabilities of Siemens India," said J Schubert, managing director, Siemens Ltd.
