Sony has emerged as the number two smartphone brand in India in terms of value sales, IDC said in a report.

As per the report IDC numbers showed Sony with a 9.1 per cent value share in the Indian smartphone market in the October-December quarter of 2013 against 7 per cent share of  Apple. Samsung leads the pack with a 43 per cent value share.

Value share means a consumer's Rs100 spent on buying a mobile, would see Samsung get Rs43, Sony get Rs9.1 and Apple get Rs7.

However Sony's value share could be dented this quarter due to Nokia's entry into Android market as also due to Apple's relaunch of the iPhone 4 which is in the Rs 20,000 category, the report added.
