TV major Raj Television Network has announced that it has received approval from
the ministry of information and broadcasting for launching its 24x7 Tamil news
channel. Recently
in mid-August, Raj TV had launched Kalaignar TV and Raj Musix. Kalaignar TV is
positioned as a general entertainment channel with programming spanning movies,
news, serials etc, and Raj Musix is a music channel focusing on youth centric
programmes. In
a communiqué to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company has disclosed that
it plans to start the channel on 14 November, which would be a 24x7 format covering
all kinds of news, including general, business, national as well as international. Raj
TV Network had posted revenues of Rs38.64 crore for the year 2006-07, representing
an increase of 22.64 per cent over the previous year. The
company has a two-year agreement with the Singapore - government owned TV12 for
exporting content to Vasantham Central, a free-to-air channel which caters to
the Indian community in Singapore. It is reportedly seeking similar alliances
with media companies in Malaysia, Thailand, Fiji, the US, and the UK.
