US computer hardware and electronics company NCR Corp, yesterday agreed to buy Israeli software company Retalix Ltd for $650 million in order to expand into the retail sector.

Georgia-based NCR, a 1997 spin-off from AT&T Corp, will pay $30 a share in cash, a 37-per cent premium to Retalix's closing price of $21.90 yesterday.

The acquisition will strengthen NCR's global leading position in the retail industry, and add to its integration of Radiant Systems into its portfolio of solutions, said NCR.

NCR had last year acquired Radiant System, a maker of customer-service sales equipment and software, for $1.2 billion. (See: NCR Corp to acquire Radiant Systems for $1.2 billion)

Retalix, based in Ra'anana, Israel, is a leading global provider of software and services to high volume, high complexity retailers, including supermarkets, convenience stores, fuel stations, drugstores and department stores.

Retalix offers solutions for point-of-sale (POS), sales channels and in-store management, including mobile and e-commerce, customer management and marketing, merchandising, and logistics.
