After four decades in operation, the signature French fry box-shaped McDonald's restaurant in Orange County, Florida has closed.

The two-storied restaurant, which opened in 1976, was known for its large upstairs arcade.

A bigger McDonald's outlet is scheduled next door in February.

The new McDonald's has an area of 19,000-square-feet and would include self-service kiosks to allow guests to customise their sandwiches.

The biggest McDonald's globally has fed millions of tourists from all over the world since its opening in 1976.

In addition to fast food, the outlet offered other activities, like bowling, slides and video games.

Construction of its state-of-the-art replacement, adjacent to the current location on Sand Lake Road, is nearing completion. According to officials of Oerther Foods Inc, which owns and operates the restaurant, the building would open in February.
