The introductory prices for the A star, which was launched in November 2008, has now been withdrawn. The new prices of the A Star all variants are higher by Rs10,000. The prices of Swift Petrol LXi have been increased by Rs5,000 and for Swift VXi and ZXi variants by Rs6,000. All variants of Swift Diesel will also be more expensive by Rs6,000. The new prices for Swift DZire (all variants in petrol and diesel) are higher by Rs7,000. Prices of all variants of SX4 sedan have been increased by Rs9,000. There is no change in prices of M800, Omni, Alto, WagonR, Zen Estilo, Gypsy, Versa and Grand Vitara. The company said that the price increase has been necessitated due to the increase in input costs and foreign currency changes. Hyundai Motors India is also due to raise its prices by about 2 per cent in the coming week. Across models, the company is expected to raise prices between Rs5,000 and Rs22,000. Earlier this month, General Motors India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor had also hiked the prices of their cars owing to rising input costs. General Motors had increased prices by up to Rs10,000 across all models from 10 January 2009, while Toyota cars became costlier by up to Rs25,000. In response to the cut in 4 per cent CENTVAT by the government, the Indian carmakers had slashed their prices to pass on the benefits.
