MTNL launches Mobile TV

New Delhi: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), the state owned provider of telecom services to the cities of Delhi and Mumbai, has launched its mobile TV service on experimental basis.
 
The service offers seven channels, and will be available free of charge to subscribers with MTNL's unlimited plan and GPRS enabled handsets, until its commercial launch in sometime around the first week of  April.
 
According to MTNL Executive Director A K Arora, "We are giving this service free, on an experimental basis, to 500 customers who are having unlimited plan of Rs349 per month, till we launch it commercially,"   Customers with GPRS-enabled handsets supported by the Symbian operating system, and a minimum phone memory of 2MB, plus the real player application will be able to use the service.
 
MTNL has a subscriber base of 15.5 lakh in landline, 13.5 lakh GSM, 1.5 lakh CDMA, 2.5 lakh broadband customers, and 16,000 lease line customers. Around 25,000 subscribers use GPRS services of the company.
