LG Electronics doubles its rehabilitation contribution news

Mumbai: LGEIL today announced a fresh relief Rs10 million (Rs. 1 crore) towards Prime Minister's relief fund for the tsunami affected states, doubling its initial contribution .All the employees of LGEIL would also contribute two days salary for the noble cause.

The company has also announced setting of medical camps in association with Apollo hospitals in the affected areas. The cost towards these camps will be close to Rs2.5 million.

Announcing the relief operations, K R Kim, president, LGEIL said, "The magnitude 9 (on Richter scale) Indian Ocean earthquake killed 150,000 people throughout the region and left more than 1.5 million homeless. The extent of the devastation was much greater than what we understood. We at LGEIL strongly feel that more resources should be urgently mobilised to meet the emergency relief needs of victims and the affected countries for national rehabilitation and reconstruction programmes."

Added Dr. Yasho Verma, VP HR and MS, LGEIL, "Beside contributing to the Prime Ministers relief fund, LG has initiated a 'healing touch' campaign whereby volunteers from LG will visit the neighbouring societies and markets to mobilise funds and resources for the disaster hit people across the nation."
