 Larsen
& Toubro''s ''heavy engineering division'' at Hazira
has successfully built one of the world''s largest FCC
regenerators and combustors for Reliance Petroleum Ltd''s
(RPL) export oriented refinery coming up at Jamnagar,
Gujarat.
The
equipment is considered the heart of the RPL''s refinery,
billed as the fifth largest in the world. L&T had
previously built a similar FCC regenerator and combustor
for Reliance Industries Ltd''s (RIL) refinery in Jamnagar
in 1998.
With
the completion of the current project, L&T''s heavy
engineering division has successfully constructed the
most critical components of RPL''s Jamnagar complex,
which is the world''s single largest refinery complex
in the world.
xCcompleted
six weeks ahead of schedule, the project was a repeat
order for L&T by Reliance for the Jamnagar Export
Refinery Project (JERP).
The
main features of FCC regenerator and combustor are a
16.3 metre diameter, an overall length of 40 metres
and weight of 1320 MT, made of carbon-manganese steel
with more than 170 MT of stainless steel internals.
The
process licensor for this equipment is UOP-USA, Mechanical
Design (including the critical finite element analysis),
detailed engineering and fabrication were done by L&T''s
heavy engineering division at Hazira.
Incidentally,
the company''s Hazira works is in the final stage of
its capacity expansion project with which the shop capacity
will double and include a super-heavy bay which can
handle 2000 MT plus weight equipment.
