L&T— Patel Engineering consortium secures 520mw hydro project order

The L&T — Patel Engineering Ltd combine has bagged the 520mw Parbati Hydro Electric Project stage III from the National Hydro Electric Power Corporation Ltd. The project is estimated at Rs440 crore..

Located at Kullu in Himachal Pradesh on the river Sainj, the project includes river diversion, rockfill dam intake, desilting chambers, 5.8km long head race tunnel and other associated construction to be implemented in and will be implemented in 56 months.

According to Ashwin Parmar, director, business development, Patel Engineering Ltd, "Our government's increasing thrust on infrastructure construction in the country has thrown open an immense growth opportunity in the sector. This is the first project bagged by Patel Engineering in consortium with L&T. We are optimistic of participating in similar projects in future on the back of synergistic strengths of Patel Engineering and L&T."

Both companies have been growing rapidly and have announced a having bagged a slew of contracts in the past few months. For instance, Patel Engineering has recently bagged the Nettampadu Lift I irrigation project and a railway tunnel project. The Nettampadu Lift - I irrigation project will irrigate around 60,000 hectares of land in the surrounding areas in Andhra Pradesh by saving 2.7 TMC of Krishna river water.

The railway tunnel project, part of the Lumding - Silchar Gauge Conversion project at Haflong, Assam is a step towards all-round development of North- Eastern states to ensure better connectivity with the rest of the country.

L&T has secured various projects such as a 2.5-million tonne blast furnace for Tata Steel, over 2,300 crore orders for ONGC, the construction of the Rs411-crore Gangavaram port project in Andhra Pradesh, orders worth over Rs900 from NHAI, and is also buildinmg the Rs231-crore Hyderabad airport.
