Mumbai: Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) today announced having received an order valued at Rs446 crore from JSW Power Transco Limited for power distribution from the 1,200 MW power project being set up by JSW Energy (Ratnagiri) Limited in Maharashtra. The Jaigad–Karad and Jaigad–New Koyna 400 kV Transmission lines, totaling 169 km, will be executed by the transmission line business unit of ECC, L&T's construction division. The scope of work involves survey, supply of all components like transmission line tower members, conductors, insulators, hardware accessories and construction of the line across the two sections. This contract has to be completed in 18 months. The company plans to demerge its engineering construction and contract (ECC) division into four separate companies soon, CNBC-TV18 quoted J Ganguly, executive vice president, L&T as having said. ''We are in the process of a major restructuring of ECC. The break-up was inevitable because we had grown substantially over the last two years.'' The four functional areas within ECC – buildings and factories, infrastructure, power transmission and distribution and mineral metal and water – have already started operating as independent divisions with effect from 1 July, he said, adding that the formal split would take a couple of years to be completed. The company plans to to list the demerged on the stock exchanges, once they acquire ''a critical mass'' for getting registered as separate entities, Ganguly was reported saying. Ganguly said the four new divisions would operate as subsidiaries or associate companies, ECC being the holding company for all the four initially. The ECC division's business is organised under 16 strategic business units which provide construction engineering services across sectors including infrastructure. The division provides engineering, procurement and construction services for airport complexes, including terminal buildings, visitors' lounges, special airport equipment like aero-bridges, baggage handling system, maintenance hangars and runways, aprons, taxiways and airfield lighting to international standards. Its capability encompasses design and construction of structural framework including finishing & interior works and electro-mechanical services like: heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), fire protection, building automation (IBMS), vertical transportation, plumbing and sanitary, surveillance and security systems, telecommunication networks, electrification, kitchen, laundry, water and effluent management, medical equipment, landscaping and horticulture.
