Verna to be the latest from Hyundai stable

2006 is the year of new cars – as many as 25 vehicles in various categories have hit the roads this year, and the latest is the Verna from Hyundai, reports CNBC-TV.

This set of wheels is likely to give the Ford Fiesta and the Honda City some competition. The Verna is the new sedan launched by Hyundai. The Ford Fiesta has clocked sales of almost 3,000 cars a month, while the City does an average of 3,500.

This one comes in both petrol and diesel versions and is priced between Rs6.19 lakh for the petrol version to Rs7.35 lakh for the diesel. The company hopes to sell 3,000 units of this car per month and has cut down on the production of Accent to 1,000 units per month.

Hyundai will now focus on bringing in another compact car, which is likely to hit the roads by next year. This car will be mainly used for exports. The diesel version of Getz is also on the cards.
