HM unveils Ambassador Grand

A variant of the present day Ambassador, the Grand will also be manufactured at HM''s Uttarpara plant in West Bengal. Targeted at bureaucrats, politicians and individual buyers, the Grand comes with contemporary technological features that offer an enhanced driving experience to the customers. The performance related changes that have been brought about in the Ambassador include:

  • Power steering for easy maneuverability and better control — leading to a superior driving experience
  • Noise vibration harshness (NVH) reduction — a new acoustic package designed in association with Treves of France results in lower noise levels and reduced vibrations, thereby enhancing the driving pleasure of the Ambassador
  • Remote shift mechanism — for a smoother and easier gear shift
  • Relocation of parking brakes in the centre — allows for an improved access to the brakes
  • Rear brakes — improved self-adjusting brakes negates the need for regular brake adjustment
  • Newly developed Salisbury axle reduces the rear axle whine and enhances serviceability
  • Improved exhaust, revamped in association with Walker for a noise-free ride

Says HM vice-president (marketing) Satish Burman: "We have continuously worked on the Ambassador to make it more appropriate for the Indian roads. Technologically, today, the car is as contemporary as any other vehicle on the roads. Special care has been taken to retain the concept of the car, as we believe that the Ambassador will lose its charm and personality if it were to look any different. The Ambassador plays an integral part in our product portfolio. Not only, is it the largest selling product of HM, it is also the third-largest selling car in the mid-size segment."

The Ambassador Grand offers the best value-for-money option in the mid-size car segment. The better-insulated, new model will continue featuring the 1.8-litre strong Isuzu MPFi petrol engine and two-litre diesel engine, and Isuzu MSG5T five-speed gearbox.

The changes in the appearance include a new grille, large tail lamps, new transparent headlamps and a new rear number plate. Front and rear self coloured, large integrated bumpers and stylish wheel caps have been added to the car. In the interiors, changes include feature moulded roof liner, a wider choice of fabrics for the upholstery, glass and magazine holder, reading light and digital clock.

Available in a range of six exciting new metallic colours — Boraque Red, Mica Brown, Thurston Grey, Symphony Silver, Symphony Gold and Pearl Black — the Grand comes with a warranty for one year or 50,000 kms, whichever comes earlier. The Grand will be supported by the 103-strong dealer network of HM. In Mumbai, the variant will be available at National Garage and Fort Point.
