General Motors India today launched its multi purpose vehicle `Enjoy' at an introductory price between Rs5.49 lakh and Rs7.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Chevrolet Enjoy is powered by a 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine and a 1.4 litre petrol engine. The 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine from Fiat also powers the company's Sail U-VA hatchback and Sail sedan models.

The petrol version is powered by a 1.4 litre engine and the price ranges from Rs5.49 lakh to Rs6.99 lakh.

The diesel variant has a 1.3 litre engine and a price tag of Rs6.69 lakh to Rs7.99 lakh. The vehicle will have 7-seater and 8- seater options.

Chevrolet Enjoy, originally called the Wuling Enjoy MPV, a GM product with Chinese inputs, would be assembled in India at the company's Ranjangaon facility.

Chevrolet Enjoy will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Mahindra Xylo and Nissan Evalia models, the current leaders of the MPV segment.

Ertiga is the leader in this segment, followed by the Xylo, in terms domestic market sales.

Enjoy is one of Chevrolet India's three products borrowed from China's GM-SAIC joint venture.

The four-cylinder 1.3-litre diesel motor and the four-cylinder 1.4 litre petrol motor develop 77.5PS and 104PS of power, respectively. Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

"The Enjoy will compete in one of the fastest growing segments in India. We expect that this model will be a success considering its attributes and pricing," GM India president and managing director Lowell Paddock said.

The vehicle has been re-engineered and re-designed to meet Indian conditions, he said, adding that it has a localisation level of 60 per cent.

Paddock said Enjoy would focus on the domestic market.
