Fortis to invest Rs 1200 crore in Rajasthan, set up medical institute

Mumbai: Ranbanxy Group company Fortis Healthcare will invest over Rs 1,200 crore over the next 10 years in Rajasthan to ramp up operations, which would include the setting up of a medical institute.

"The plan for Rajasthan is to invest over Rs 1,200 crore on ramping up bed capacity, which will also include partnership with government hospitals and the set up of a medical institute," Fortis Healthcare CEO and managing director, Shivinder Mohan Singh, said .

Fortis has a 163-bed hospital - Fortis Escorts Hospital - in Jaipur and has invested Rs 110 crore in the first phase with plans to invest another Rs 90 crore in the second phase.

Speaking on the sidelines of a FICCI function, the Fortis chief said the company plans to increase the total bed capacity to 2,500 from the current 163 over the next ten years.

The healthcare chain, he said, will also generate 7,000-8,000 jobs over the period. Fortis currently employs 700 people, of which 74 per cent are from the state.

Fortis expects to produce around 2,000 graduates annually as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paramedics, pharmacists and allied professionals, under its medical institution plans, he said.
