FIAT 1.3-diesel engine selected ''engine of the year 2005'' award

Fiat''s 1.3 turbo diesel engine, a product of Fiat and GM has been selected as the ''engine of the year 2005'' in the 1 to 1.4 litres category. The Fiat-GM 1.3 diesel engine is followed by the 1.3 IMA of Honda, the 1.4 diesel of Peugeot-Citroen / Ford, the 1.4 FSI of Volkswagen, the 1.4 diesel of Toyota and the 1.3 of Daihatsu.

The jury of the ''international engine of the year'' award is composed of 56 of the most influential automotive sector journalists from 26 who have evaluated every engine in production to have been installed in the cars that sells in more than one country. The list usually includes at least 60 new engines introduced in the market in the last 13 months.

Made in Poland, the 1.3-diesel common rail makes use of the ''multijet'' technology, which has been developed in the Fiat Research Centre. Multijet utilises the electronic control to subdivide the principal injection into final small multiple injections (jets) to obtain a more homogenous combustion, reduced emission and more power output.

The reduced engine weight was another point in favour of this propeller of 70 Cv and 170 Nm. In addition, it is also compact, a characteristic, which allows it to be installed in a wide range of vehicles.
