Fiat may launch Alfa Romeo by Dec

Seeing the success of BMW which has begun selling more than 100 cars per month and Mercedes which sold more than 2500 units in the last finanacial year in India, Italian automaker Fiat is considering launching its luxury car 'Alfa Romeo' in the country, for which it is undertaking a detailed market study.
 
Alfa Romeo is a style icon from Fiat's stable and a part of its luxury brands portfolio. The company will also launch the Linea, another upmarket cars some time in the first quarter of 2009.
 
Fiat dealers say that the Alfa Romeo is undergoing homologation (testing) and will hit the market mid-2008. "Fiat is planning to showcase its engineering expertise. We have been asked to prepare for a big luxury car from the Fiat stable in the near future," said a Fiat dealer in Delhi.

Very soon, two models of the luxury sport scar Ferrari will be seen zipping around the country on a two-and-a-half month 'Magic of India' tour, beginning from 25 February in Mumbai.
 
These will be accompanied by a Fiat Cinquecento (500) and a Bravo, as part of Fiat India's promotional blitz to announce its second coming.

Fiat India, a joint venture between the Fiat Group and Tata Motors, also said that the Fiat 500 and the Bravo would be on Indian roads from June this year and would join the Ferrari Magic India Drive

The Alfa Romeo would be placed on par with the BMW-3 series priced in the Rs24 to Rs42-lakh range.

The 500 and Bravo would be on roads from June onwards. Both the vehicles launched in the recently held Auto Expo in New Delhi, would be available in the completely built unit (CBU) category.

The Fiat 500 would be priced around Rs12 lakh, while Bravo would cost more than Rs16 lakh, on road.
