ECIL implements high-speed OFC-based network for RailTel

New Delhi: Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL), the pioneer of indigenous electronic revolution in the country, has announced the successful system integration of the high-speed optical fibre cable (OFC) backbone network for RailTel, the telecom subsidiary of Indian Railways. The OFC-based project has been commissioned by Railway Minister Nitish Kumar in Bangalore today.

As part of the implementation, ECIL has integrated high-technology SDH/PDH equipment supplied by Tejas its partner, in integrating the defence components and managing the network. Networking management system (NMS) presently will ensure effective management of the network, provide configuration management, network health monitoring, security and accounting management and proactive maintenance. As an extension of this network, ECIL has also bagged an additional order covering 64 stations for OFC-based network implementation.

Says ECIL technical director Wing Commander (Retired) K S Chandrasekhar: "The successful implementation of this project is a testimony of our system integration abilities and technical strengths. We are proud to play an important role in the RailTel project, which promises to change not only the way the Indian Railways communicate but also add muscle to the communication needs of our country."

The network has a capability to offer the following services apart from meeting the railways communication needs: bandwidth services for telecom operators, Internet services, virtual private network, national and international long-distance services, voice over IP and telephone.
