Mumbai: Two and three-wheeler major Bajaj Auto Ltd is betting on big performance bikes for a revenue push beyond the Rs 10,000 crore mark this fiscal with sales of 2.8 million vehicles.
"This fiscal our total turnover should cross the Rs 10,000 crore mark with a sales of 2.8 million vehicles," said Ravi Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto, after launching the company's new 200cc Pulsar motorcycle. "By May the Pulsar 220cc with fuel injection will be launched and the following month the 200cc cruiser bike Avenger should hit the market," Bajaj said. He said the company would focus on higher engine capacity and sporty performance motorcycles for its future growth with a slew of launches scheduled this year. He said the company expects a top line growth of 25 per cent. Bajaj Auto, he said, has taken a conscious decision to move away from the lower margin, low capacity bikes and would give emphasis on higher cc motorcycles. "We are coming up with a motorcycle on a completely new platform, which should draw away customers from the entry level and 100cc segment," he said, adding there would be two variants of the new bike. "We are also increasing the production of Pulsar and by June it should touch 60,000 units," he said adding the company would gradually phase out its entry level bikes Platina and CT100 in due course of time. The new 200cc Pulsar DTS-i has set new benchmarks in technology, performance, and styling. It comes equipped with oil cooler, which helps control engine oil temperatures at sustained high speeds and RPMs, thus ensuring more stable engine oil viscosity. The 200cc DTS-i engine generates 18 Ps of power to provide riding excitement to performance-hungry bikers. It's also the first bike in India to feature both front and rear tubeless tyres, which besides offering superior stability are safer than conventional tube types and in sync with the offerings abroad for similar applications. The rear tyre is the broadest in its category, ensuring better road grip and stability. The new digital console is an advanced version of the latest Pulsar family. Apart from the digital odometer, digital speedo meter, digital fuel gauge and two digital trip meters, the console on the 200 cc Pulsar DTS-i has indicators for air filter condition, engine temperature, battery voltage and oil level, all of which contribute to enhancing rider info for trouble-free riding. He said the company expects the Pulsar family to have a sales of about 50,000 units by June as against 43,000 units in January.
