Mumbai: Bajaj Auto, India's second-biggest motorcycle maker, has announced a disappointing sales performance for the month of November while Hero Honda and TVS have put in a better performance.
Bajaj Auto said its November sales rose a marginally to 1 per cent to 183,411 units from 182,360 units in the same period a year ago. Its sales of motorcycles rose 2 per cent to 157,831 units from 154,137, but sales of all two-wheelers were lower at 166,254 units against 166,626 units. Sales of three-wheelers rose 9 per cent to 17,157 units from 15,734 units a year earlier. The company said exports rose 49 per cent to 23,112 units from 15,519 units a year earlier. On the other hand Hero Honda India's biggest motorcycle maker, said it has sold 251,186 bikes in November, up 6.5 percent from 235,836 bikes sold in the same month last year. The sales included exports of 7,301 bikes, against 5,654 a year ago. The country's third-biggest motorcycle maker, TVS Motor Co. has reported a 5 per cent rise in sales to 113,261 units from 107,830 units a year ago in the month under review. Its motorcycle sales rose nearly 5 per cent to 68,122 units from 65,066 units a year ago, and sales of scooterettes rose 2 percent to 21,057 units from 20,646 units a year earlier. TVS Motors said exports rose 44 per cent to 6,120 units. In October this year all two-wheeler makers had reported strong sales on account of the festive season. Bajaj Auto was in the news with media reports claiming that the company was close to launching a 250cc motorcycle at a price tag of Rs 1 lakh. If everything goes right, Bajaj is expected to showcase this motorcycle at the upcoming Auto-Expo show in January next year. Bajaj also manufacturers an Indian version of the previously known as Kawasaki Eliminator called Bajaj Avenger. Bajaj Auto's share price has been rising steadily this month and its shares closed at Rs 2015.50 on the BSE today.
