Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si, first in a series of six to be launched this year news
12 January 2009

Two-wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto plans  to launch six new, larger engine bikes in 2009. The first off the block will be the all-new sports commuter motorcycle, the Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si, due to be launched on on 21 January 2009.

Though meant for regular use, this bike will is designed to be sporty both in its performance and styling.

The 135-cc XCD, priced at Rs 45,000 is the Bajaj response to Hero Honda`s best-selling Splendor / Passion range.

It also plans to launch two more new bikes in the value-segment (125-135 cc engine size) in April and July and three premium models (150 cc and above) later this year. The bikes will be produced from Bajaj`s Waluj and Pantnagar plants from February.

Aimed at the mid-market or value segment, the Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si will have many first-in-class features like a 135cc DTS-Si engine, a 5-speed gearbox, auto choke, gas-filled Nitrox shock absorbers, and  digital speedometer.

It also features an electric-start and front disc brake digital cockpit, nitrox rear, low-friction front suspension, twin pilot headlamps and LED tail lamps.

Bajaj says the new bike will yield a mileage of 65 - 70km per litre.

Its 10.5 bhp engine, sporty styling, long feature-list and a price of approximately Rs45,000 ex-showroom, could make it a compelling alternative to lesser performing and conservatively styled motorcycle in the value segment.

Mr. Amit Nandi, GM (Mktg), said, '' Bajaj Auto has a very strong position in the entry segment and the premium segment of the motorcycle market. With the launch of the Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si and 2 more new products in April and July 09, we aim to garner a strong position in the Value segment ''

The Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si will be manufactured in Waluj. Production for the fist month will be 8000 units and will be increased thereafter.

The news pushed the company's shares as they gained Rs 18.75, or 4.61 per cent to end at Rs 425.85.
