Acer introduces 15'' monitor at Rs 10,000

Mumbai: Acer has announced that it will market 15 inch LCD monitors at below Rs 10,000 — Rs 9,999 to be precise. It has introduced its 15" LCD AL1512 M monitor at Rs 9,999 exclusive of taxes. The price does not involve an exchange or any other collateral purchase.

Acer, which ranks among the world's top ten branded PC vendors (2003 revenue: $15.6 billion), hopes to replicate the success of its marketing strategy for Europe in India and has been aggressively targeting the market with its TFT monitors.

The company estimates the 'total addressable market' (TAM) for monitors at around 4 million, out of which TFT monitor sales account for six per cent of the monitor market or approximately 20,000 pieces per month, with the bulk of its sales coming from the ITeS, retail banking verticals with industry leaders in these segments comprising Acer's key constituents.

"We foresee a growing demand in users shifting from CRT monitors to TFT monitors for both its aesthetic qualities as well as to meet technology upgradation requirements," says S Rajendran, general manager, sales and marketing, (consumer products group) Acer India.

"Since the budget was presented this year, we have announced path breaking price points for our products," he adds.

The LCD AL1512 M, weighing 2.6 kg, has a 1024 x 768 display resolution, a contrast ratio of 450:1 and a brightness of 350 cd/m2. The monitor can also be wall mounted and is equipped with two in-built 1.5 watts speakers.
