Audi R8 wins two awards at the 2008 World Car of the Year awards in New York

Mumbai: Audi R8, a sports model manufactured by German car maker Audi, has achieved a double at the 2008 World Car of the Year awards, winning both the World Performance Car and the World Car Design of the Year awards.

The award ceremony was part of the New York International Auto Show held at the Jacob Javits Convention Centre.

A jury comprising 47 World Car jurors from 24 countries across the world  chose the R8 for Audi R8these awards.

The R8, which is powered  by a  mid-mounted 420 horsepower V8 engine can reach a speed of 100km/h from zero in 4.7 seconds. The car provides exceptional balance, refinement and control to the driver and gives the confidence to push to the limit. The jury was impressed by these features while naming the R8 for the 2008 World Performance Car award

For the 2008 World Car Design of the Year award, the jurors praised the Audi R8 for "transforming the sports car landscape. The R8 design is striking, original and full of interesting details, from the nose strakes to the much discussed vertical 'blade' behind the B pillar".

Interestingly Audi had two contenders for the award with the  Audi S5  also voted as one of the top three finalists along with the R8 and BMW M3.
