Apple introduces improved MacBook range in India news
25 October 2008

Munbai: Within a week of its launch in the US, computer maker Apple has decided to bring in its spanking new MacBook consumer notebook family to India.

Aple will be offering seven models in three product categories, with each built using the new mechanical design which uses a single 'unibody' ultra light aluminium chassis. Apple says that this makes it the lightest, thinnest title in their class for many of the offerings.

New MacBook Apple's new MacBook family is said to redefine notebook design and lower the entry price for advanced notebook features.

The new 15-inch MacBook Pro and 17-inch MacBook Pro are already shipping out to customers, while the new MacBook Air would only be available in November through Apple's authorised resellers, one of which is Reliance Digital.

An updated 13-inch white MacBook featuring 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 120GB 5400 rpm hard drive and a slot-load 8X SuperDrive has been priced at Rs61,800. The new MacBook and15-inch MacBook Pro have a unibody enclosure crafted from a single block of aluminium, enabling thinner and more durable designs.

One of the most radical change within the MacBook is an across-the-board move towards a graphics-intensive integrated chip set from NVIDIA. It makes Apple the first user of the new GeForce 9400M 3-D processor, while it retains Intel for its main processor, using the popular Core 2 Duo chips with speeds varying between 2 GHz to 2.5 GHz.

The seven new offerings include MacBook, MacBookPro and MacBook Air categories. While the 13.3-inch MacBooks are aimed at lay users, priced between Rs79,700 and Rs96,500, the 15.4-inch Pro machines are optimised with a graphics chip from NVIDIA to deliver high rendering and editing speeds for visual computing professionals. These are priced between Rs1.20 lakh to Rs1.45 lakh.

The top of the line 17-inch MacBook Pro is priced at Rs1.62 lakh, while the ultra thin-n-light 13.3-inch MacBook Air is priced in the range of Rs1 lakh to Rs1.50 lakh, depending on the chip speed and on board memory and storage configuration.

Common features across the Apple machines include a gesture-sensitive touch pad, recessed ports, displays back lit with LEDs, and light-adjusting keyboards.

Angeline Tan, Apple's product marketing manager for portables and wireless for the Asia Pacific region was reported as saying that a 24-inch high definition cinema display that is expected to be priced at Rs60,900 would be available in India next month.
