Taj opens coffers for all casualties of terror attack

RK Krishna KumarAmidst the wreckage of the murderous cross-border terror attacks in Mumbai, the management of the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai said that it is opening its coffers to any victim of the attacks, which ever part of the city it may have taken place in Mumbai on 26 November.

As the central and state governments grapple with investigations in the ftermath of the attacks, the Indian Hotels Company has set up a trust fund to aid the injured who need assistance of any kind. Most importantly, this aid is not only for employees or guest of the Taj but even victims at Nariman House, CST railway terminus, Cama Hospital, Leopold Café and even at its rival, the Trident, and elsewhere.

There are hundreds of victims of the attack who are being treated at various hospitals in Mumbai who may not have access to funds for treatment. Keeping them in mind, IHC has stepped in to help all those who require money for their treatment till recovery.

IHC held its first meeting of board members on Friday who readily agreed to setting up the trust and company vice chairman, R K Krishna Kumar said that this fund was not just for victims at the Taj, but for all victims irrespective of the location of the terror attack which took place in Mumbai late last month.

According to media reports, IHC has already identified a victim at the Taj, who is being treated at Bombay Hospital for multiple gun shots and her bills have already accumulated to Rs8 lakhs and according to hospital authorities it may eventually run up to Rs25 lakhs.

The Taj management has got in touch with the victims relatives and has told them that all the hospital bills will be paid by the newly formed trust.
