Underlining the often-noticed unreliability of India's exit polls – which on Monday evening widely predicted a clear win for the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (See: Sensex, Nifty surge as exit polls see clear win for Modi-led NDA) in the just-concluded general elections – global investment bank Credit Suisse says such polls still reveal a "range of high uncertainty".

The Switzerland-based Credit Suisse points out that while national totals are within a relatively narrow range, the state numbers that add up to those totals vary "widely."

''This suggests high measurement error margins," Credit Suisse says, with final results likely to be known by Friday evening.
